How to Find the Perfect Sunset Spot
A little planning for the best light of the day
Tropical sunsets are fast and dramatic. A little planning makes sure you are in the right place at the right time.
Face west — and check the season
The sun sets in a slightly different place through the year. A sunset app or a quick look at a map will show you which beaches and headlands face it.
Arrive early
The best colour often comes in the twenty minutes after the sun dips below the horizon. Arrive before it sets and stay a little after.
Look for height or water
Cliffs give you a wide horizon; a wet beach at low tide gives you reflections.
Bring a torch
Darkness falls quickly near the equator. A small light makes the walk back easy.
